Cleaning Suggestions toMake Your Home Healthier with the New Year

Wipe down countertops regularly. Countertops aren't only where foods are prepared, but it’s also where dirt, dust, bacteria and allergen particles floating in the air often settle. If you've got a countertop with granite or tile, it’s preferable to opt for a mild cleaner and preferably one that will refresh the sealer. It is critical to keep sealer fresh to prevent bacteria from entering into the porous areas of the stone.

2. Keep carpets and rugs clean. Vacuuming and routine cleaning are beneficial in maintaining cleaner carpets,
but are not really enough. For that reason, the EPA recommends getting carpets cleaned by professionals at least one time every 12 months. Homes with pets and/or children, it is recommended to obtain a cleaning service, such as Chem-Dry, two or three times per year. For homeowners with pets, it’s wise to obtain a professional cleaning service that also includes a highly effective urine detection and removal process. To eliminate the absolute most germs out of your own carpets and rugs, request adding a sanitizer right into the cleaning method to destroy and eliminate bacteria as well as a protectant, which puts a protective coating for your carpet fibers and makes it easier which keeps carpets cleaner for a longer period of time.

3. Don’t
forget about your upholstered furniture. Vacuuming upholstered furnishings are nearly as easy and is equally as important as carpets, especially in the high-traffic areas like family rooms. It’s recommended to vacuum the upholstery in your home once every other week and get it cleaned professionally every year.

4. Sanitize high touch points
in your house, including door knobs, toilet handles, faucets and switches. Spending several minutes sanitizing those areas, particularly pre and post guests come into your home, can go a long way toward minimizing multiplication of germs. More preventive ways to minimizing the spread of germs include being vigilant about washing your hands regularly during the day and putting a bottle of hand sanitizer in the high-traffic areas of your house, that makes it convenient and easy for keeping your hands clean and germ-free.

5. Use door mats or area rugs in entry ways and high-traffic areas,
these may do a fantastic job of trapping dirt and allergens before they enter into the heart of the house. Truth is that carpets and rugs become filters that capture and trap dirt, dust and allergens and stop them from going into the air and spreading through the home. On hard surfaces, these particles simply settle then are stirred into the air next time there can be traffic and activity in the area. Using door mats and area rugs is an efficient and inexpensive way to prevent unwanted and unhealthy particles from getting deeper inside the home or from staying in the air where they may spread more easily to members of your family.

6. Check and replace your heating and air conditioning filters. While furnaces
are needed to keeping homes warm during the colder months, it’s important to replace the furnace air filter at regular intervals in order to prevent dirt, dust and other unhealthy particles from being distributed around the house. Continue with the recommended replacement timing from each filter which is located on the package. To remember when it’s time to change the filter, write the date that you’re performing the replacement on the outer edge of the new filter that you’re installing to make it easy to know whenever your next one is due.

Spring Cleaning

Spring is in the air! As it starts to heat up, many feel the need to do a little bit of “spring cleaning.” Although nobody really wants to spend their time cleaning and organizing, it gives a nice sense of accomplishment once everything is in the proper place. Like the old saying goes, “Out with the old, in with the new.” Especially in this case, spring is a good time of year to not only get rid of unnecessary “things” but also to enjoy time with family in nicer weather.

But with warmer temperatures also comes an increase in allergens. Chem-Dry recently conducted a national study showing that Chem-Dry removes 98% of allergens from carpets and upholstery! The second part of the study proved that Chem-Dry also removes 89% of airborne bacteria, improving indoor air quality. These tests are yet another proof that choosing Chem-Dry Clearwater/Largo leads to a healthier home!

Post Valentine's Cleanup

Valentine’s Day is not a widely loved holiday across the board (ironic, right?). Those that love it, though, love it. And, likewise, those that hate it, hate it. We’re not here to play favorites because everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, whether your carpets are covered with chocolate stains and candle wax, or pizza and ice cream stains, there is still a mess to be cleaned!

Not to toot our own horn, but we’re pretty good at spot & stain removal. It’s true that some stains can be removed fairly easily without the need to call in a professional carpet cleaner. However, for those stubborn stains that won’t come out, even after tireless scrubbing efforts, it’s time to call in the pros. From lipstick and fingernail polish to red soda and markers, we’re confident in our ability to remove even the toughest stains.

January is always an interesting month. Most don’t like it because it’s colder or grayer than other months. Others don’t prefer it because it’s in the dead winter and it sometimes seems to drag on forever. However, with every gray cloud, during this cold period, is a silver lining.

January is a great time to get things done, and not just with carpet cleaning. The holiday madness has ended and we have a few free weeks before the craziness known as “Valentine’s Day” ensues. It may be a little bit chillier this time of year, but that means more time to re-organize the home and recover from damages that the last holidays made.

Although this may be a dreaded task, you’re not alone in the cleanup process. At Chem-Dry Clearwater/Largo, we’re more than happy to restore your home to its previous glory. We offer a carpet cleaning service that cleans deeper and dries quicker than many of the carpet cleaners in Clearwater. We also offer upholstery cleaning and Pet Urine Removal Treatment (for the little puppy that Santa brought).
